Tummy Tuck Omaha
If you’d like a smoother, more contoured abdomen with less excess skin and fat, it may be time to consider getting a tummy tuck. Every year, Dr. Ayoub of Westfield Plastic Surgery Center performs several tummy tuck surgeries on female and male patients in Omaha who have excess skin and fat as well as loose or separated abdominal muscles. Dr. Ayoub recommends a tummy tuck for:
- People who have lost a significant amount weight and are now at their ideal goal weight range, but have excess skin and fat from their previous body shape.
- Women who do not intend to have more children, as additional pregnancies may negate the results of a tummy tuck surgery.
- Older patients who have excess sagging skin around their abdomen.
A tummy tuck can improve your overall body contour by removing skin and a small amount of fat, as well as tightening your abdominal muscles, making you feel more comfortable and confident in your skin, clothes and a bathing suit.*
Fixing Abdominal Separation (Diastasis Recti)
Abdominal separation, or diastasis recti, is a common problem experienced by many women after the birth of their children. The strain of pregnancy weight, or sometimes labor, can cause your abdominal muscles to separate and project more than usual. If you’re suffering from diastasis recti, there’s nothing you yourself can do to keep your belly from protruding. Surgically tightening and reattaching these muscles is part of Dr. Ayoub’s comprehensive tummy tuck surgery and will be discussed during your consultation if you are showing signs of this often frustrating condition.
Removing a C-Section Scar
While most OBGYNs do their best to place C-section scars below the bikini line, it isn’t always possible to place them in this ideal spot. And, if you’re an Omaha mother who had an emergency C-section, you may have a vertical C-section scar. Depending on the amount of skin and fat that needs to be removed during your tummy tuck, a tummy tuck incision may be able to finally remove your C-section scar, replacing it with a below-the-bikini-line scar so that you can feel comfortable and confident in a two-piece bathing suit.
Choosing the Right Procedure
Most Omaha patients are familiar with a traditional tummy tuck surgery that reduces skin and fat above and below the belly button. The incision for a traditional tummy tuck surgery extends hip to hip, underneath the bikini line, to reveal the underlying abdominal muscles and remove skin.
Mini Tummy Tuck
A mini tummy tuck, which is done through a smaller incision and only addresses the area below the belly button, is another option for patients. This type of tummy tuck is ideal for Omaha patients who have:
- Little excess skin and fat, but still desire to have these problem areas addressed.
- Diastasis recti, or separated abdominal muscles.
- Developed a fat deposit under their belly button, which is common in older women, or women who have had children.
The mini tummy tuck will not reposition your belly button and is only recommended for certain patients.
Panniculectomy
Omaha patients who were obese and have drastically reduced their body weight will require a panniculectomy to reduce skin and fat. Unlike a tummy tuck, a panniculectomy only reduces excess skin and fat that often hangs over the groin or thighs of patients. This procedure does not move the belly button or tighten the abdominal wall.

What Will Happen During the Tummy Tuck?
In preparation for your tummy tuck, you should be at your ideal weight range and have the time to recover properly from surgery. On the day of surgery, you will meet Dr. Ayoub at a local outpatient hospital and be prepared for surgery using anesthesia to make you comfortable, put you to sleep and keep you fully unaware of the surgery as it is taking place. Afterward, Dr. Ayoub will:
- Make a long horizontal incision across your lower abdomen, from hip to hip.
- Reduce excess skin and fat from your abdomen.
- Perform a corset abdominal musculature tightening to centralize your abdominal muscles.
- Carefully close the incision to minimize scarring and promote healing.
After your surgery, you will have time to recover in the outpatient hospital, and Dr. Ayoub himself will check to see that you are doing well after surgery. Most patients can return home the same day as the procedure.*
Recovery
As part of your recovery process, you will be wearing a compression garment when you leave the hospital. This garment will support your abdominal muscles as you heal and reduce swelling for the first 3-6 weeks following your surgery. You will not be able to do any exercise or heavy lifting – including lifting your children – until Dr. Ayoub clears you to do so. Dr. Ayoub will check your healing one week after your procedure as well as six weeks after the procedure. The entire recovery period for your tummy tuck will take between 4-6 weeks, but your scar will continue to heal for a few months after.*

Am I a Good Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
Tummy tucks can be performed on most Omaha women and men who meet the following requirements:
- Are in good overall health.
- Are non-smokers, or promise to quit smoking for a few weeks before and after their tummy tuck, as smoking can interfere both with the surgery and recovery period.
- Have a problem area to be addressed, such as separated abdominal muscles and/or excess belly skin.
- Are in good psychological health.
- Have realistic expectations for their procedure.
- If female, do not intend to have any additional children as future pregnancies can undo the incredible results of a tummy tuck.*
Combining a Tummy Tuck with Other Procedures
A tummy tuck is a safe, routine plastic surgery procedure that can be combined with other plastic surgeries, too. Most commonly, Omaha women choose to combine a tummy tuck with a breast augmentation and/or breast lift for a procedure that is commonly known as a Mommy Makeover. If you desire to have both abdominal and breast work performed, talk to Dr. Ayoub about the benefits of combining these two surgeries into one event.
Tummy Tuck Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Patients who suffer from excessive weight issues should seek to lose weight before a tummy tuck. For patients in Omaha who seek a tummy tuck treatment with Dr. Ayoub at Westfield Plastic Surgery Center, a tummy tuck is not a weight loss measure, and patients should not rely on the surgery to resolve any long-standing weight loss issues. Additionally, patients who have already lost a significant amount of weight should postpone their tummy tuck treatments until they know that their weight loss is stable. The results of a tummy tuck are technically permanent, and this is good news. But avoiding big fluctuations in weight is essential to maintain a good figure and to keep the stomach from stretching again. The skin is capable of healing and stretching out to its original size.
There are, however, no specific weight loss requirements for tummy tuck treatments. Patients in Omaha who are seeking abdominoplasty surgery should seek to aid the process not only for their own health but to make the surgery more effective. Tummy tucks are only a small measure that can contribute to an overall whole of better physique and aesthetics, but the surgery targets areas of the body and cannot solve an excess of total body fat. If patients are willing to commit to keeping themselves healthy, however, then a tummy tuck with Dr. Ayoub can be the perfect way to cap off a weight loss regimen and look better than ever.
Yes. Stretch marks are not a reason alone to pursue a tummy tuck, but if a tummy tuck is performed, then it is absolutely possible to improve the look of stretch marks. Patients in Omaha who seek treatment with Dr. Ayoub should know a couple of things about stretch marks and tummy tucks.
Stretch marks can appear on adolescents, bodybuilders or on anybody who experiences weight gain followed by rapid weight loss. There is no cure for them. They’re caused as a result of fractured collagen in the skin that rapidly stretches. This overstretched skin, with fractured collagen, then loses its ability to shrink or contract. Typically, they are purple or red in color when they first occur, then fade to white once scar tissue matures over time, which can take about 12 to 18 months.
Generally, if the stretch marks are located on the skin below the belly button, they may be removed, and even marks above the skin will see a significant improvement in look after the surgery. The main purpose of a tummy tuck is to remove the extra loose skin, and through careful planning and proper incision, Dr. Ayoub can help Omaha patients recover some of their look before stretch marks by concealing the incision site and removing as many stretch marks as possible. The increased tension in the skin and tightened muscles will make the tummy look firmer for all patients that undergo the surgery.
Abdominal muscle separation is the process of muscles splitting around the abdomen and stomach area, causing the abdomen to stick out, creating an area of sagging skin directly in the center of the abdomen. Abdominal muscles reside on either side of the midline and are connected by tissue. Various forces can cause these muscles to spread apart, thinning or possibly even tearing the connective tissue. These ab muscles and related connective tissue support the back and organs. When they are separated and thinned, the abdominal wall is weakened, making them less able to do so. As a result, the belly tends to stick out, and patients may notice a ridge running down the midline of the belly.
For Omaha women, there are a few reasons for abdominal muscle separation, but the chief cause is pregnancy and childbirth. There are many factors that increase a woman’s chance of experiencing abdominal muscle separation:
- Having more than one child, either close in age or with twins, can increase the risk of tearing as the uterus grows too large for the abdominal muscles to stretch.
- Being over the age of 35 can cause an increase in muscle sagging, which may contribute to muscle separation.
- Doing excessive abdominal muscle exercises.
- Being petite or with small abdominal muscles.
Family history with possible genetic links.
Omaha patients experiencing abdominal muscle separation may be candidates for tummy tucks to fix their issues. Dr. Ayoub can help patients figure out what their specific needs are in a comprehensive consultation.
Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. There are a number of concerns about the effects of abdominoplasty, however. Tummy tucks are one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in Omaha, and it is natural that the common concerns about these procedures are of particular significance to patients.
Abdominoplasty is often undergone to achieve greater aesthetic results, so it is only natural that patients will be concerned with the way they will look afterward. The most common of these concerns pertains to scarring, are abdominoplasty scars obvious and large? Can patients look good in a bathing suit after their surgery?
The answer for Omaha patients of Dr. Ayoub is yes. Patients will be surprised with how discrete their scarring is, and how much care has gone into covering up the effects and indications of surgery. Horizontal incisions are made below the hipline, in places that are often covered up by bathing suits and underwear. Patients can request that their incision is made as low as possible and will be made acutely aware of where their incision will be located before the surgery is done. Even then, the incision is small, and the procedure is made to maximize the effectiveness of the surgery with the smallest amount of cutting. Dr. Ayoub knows what patients want and has the skills to provide the results that patients need.
Pricing For a Tummy Tuck
The cost of a tummy tuck is unique to each patient, which is why it is so important to visit Dr. Ayoub for an initial consultation to find out how much you can expect to pay for your procedure. During your appointment, he will evaluate your abdominal area, listen to you describe what you envision for your final results, and explain his approach to your care.
Although no two tummy tuck procedures are identical, Dr. Ayoub knows that many of his patients would like an approximate cost associated with their surgery before they schedule an initial consultation. For this reason, he has provided a price estimate tool on his website which will help you prepare for your first appointment.
