Blepharoplasty, or eyelid lift, has become an increasingly popular facial plastic surgery procedure performed at Westfield Plastic Surgery Center in recent years. More and more men and women realize how easy it is to regain a refreshed, younger-looking appearance with just a few small incisions. This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, during which Dr. Ayoub will remove excess skin, redistribute fat from the eyelids, and tighten the eyelid muscles to achieve the patient’s desired results. Omaha men and women can choose to have eyelid surgery performed on either the upper lids, lower lids, or both eyelids at the same time.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

As age begins to take its toll, the skin responds by gradually losing elasticity. You likely already know this about the skin on other areas of your body, but the same can happen to the skin on and around the eyelids as well. This sagging skin not only ages you, but it can reduce your field of vision as well. The blepharoplasty procedure can make you look more alert and even help you see better!

Benefits of Blepharoplasty

No matter how much sleep you get and how refreshed you feel, you still have dark circles under your eyes. The worst part is that you look angry and frustrated, rather than your usual happy self. Not even makeup can conceal the problem entirely. Omaha patients whose eyes appear tired can improve their appearance with a blepharoplasty, or eye lift.* A lower lid blepharoplasty will address:

  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Droopy skin
  • Tear troughs
  • Fat deposits that cause bags under the eyes.

Omaha patients whose upper eyelids droop impairing vision and making their eyes appear smaller can benefit from an upper lid blepharoplasty. An upper lid blepharoplasty will:*

  • Restore the natural contour of your upper eyelid.
  • Reduce fat that makes the eyelids appear bulky.
  • Excise sagging skin that can impede vision.

While these two procedures are separate, they can easily be combined to rejuvenate the appearance of your eyes completely. Patients regain the youthful upper lid crease and lower lid contour for a younger appearance.*

Who Is a Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Patients in and around Omaha might consider blepharoplasty if they experience drooping or sagging upper eyelids or lower eyelids that sag excessively, revealing the lower whites of the eyes. Additionally, an eyelid lift might be a good option for you if you have:

To find out if you are a good candidate for blepharoplasty, you should first schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Ayoub at Westfield Plastic Surgery Center. During your appointment, he will perform a full evaluation, listen as you describe your desired results, talk to you about your overall health history, and work with you to develop a treatment plan that will suit your needs and achieve your goals. He will also be sure to answer any questions you have regarding the eyelid lift surgery to ensure you have all the information you need to make a decision.

Types of Blepharoplasty

The beauty of the eyelid lift procedure is that it can be completely customized to fit the needs of each individual patient. There are multiple ways to approach blepharoplasty, and no matter what, Dr. Ayoub will always provide natural-looking, beautiful results.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Patients in Omaha who suffer from droopy upper eyelids can choose upper blepharoplasty to remove the excess skin and fat that causes this undesirable look. Droopy eyelids are most commonly the result of the natural process of aging, but this loose skin on the eyelids can cause patients to look tired, old, and even obstruct their vision.

And while some patients choose upper blepharoplasty to correct droopy eyelids, others prefer to have this surgery to correct their excessively puffy eyelids caused by too much fat in the upper eyelid. No matter your desired results, Dr. Ayoub can turn back the hands of time and refresh your appearance with an eyelid lift.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Men and women who suffer from dark circles under the eyes, excessive puffiness under the eye, or small lines and wrinkles around the eyes can choose a lower blepharoplasty to restore this area to a more youthful appearance. Additionally, patients who have lower eyelids that dramatically pull away from the eye, exposing the lower whites of the eye or even the inside of the lower eyelid, often choose a lower eyelid lift to improve their appearance.

Just as with upper blepharoplasty, the surgical process of a lower blepharoplasty can be customized to fit the specific needs of each individual patient. For example, those who have dark circles under the eyes may require fat redistribution to the area to increase volume, but those who have puffy under-eyes may require fat removal. Regardless of your needs, Dr. Ayoub will work closely with you to develop a treatment plan to achieve your goals.

Can I Combine an Eye lift With Other Procedures?

Although an eyelift does not need to be combined with additional procedures, most Omaha patients benefit from a combining their eyelift surgery with other procedures:

Brow Lift

A brow lift targets the area from the eyes to the forehead to restore the brows to a higher position. The result is a refreshed appearance of the area around the eyes and a forehead free of lines and wrinkles.*

Cheek Lift

When patients have more severe tear troughs, Dr. Ayoub recommends a cheek lift to restore cheeks that have been pulled down due to the tear trough.

Fat Grafting

Traditional eyelift surgery has often neglected to restore the youthful firmness of the skin, instead tightening skin and reducing skin and fat. This results in a stereotypical plastic surgery patient, often aging patients by reducing too much skin and fat. To avoid an unnatural appearance, Dr. Ayoub will either reposition fat deposits or transfer unwanted fat from another part of your body to restore volume. This fat grafting enhances the eyelift for a more youthful and refreshed appearance.*

Cost of Blepharoplasty

The cost of the procedure varies from patient to patient it will be determined on an individual basis during the consultation process. Dr. Ayoub will meet with you for an extensive consultation during which he will perform a full evaluation, and work with you to develop a treatment plan that suits your individual needs. Because he understands that patients would like some idea of how much their procedure is going to cost prior to visiting him for a consultation, he has provided a price estimate tool for patients to be prepared before they schedule their eyelid lift consultation.

What Happens During an Eyelift?

After discussing your options during a consultation, Dr. Ayoub will perform a blepharoplasty that targets problem areas by:

  • Making an incision that is concealed by natural creases of the upper eyelid. The lower lid blepharoplasty incision can be placed in the outer skin or inside of the lower lid under the eyelashes (sclera), which avoids scars.
  • Reducing excess skin and fat.
  • Repositioning or grafting fat to add volume where needed.
  • Closing the incision with sutures that will be taken out approximately 5-7 days after surgery.

The procedure will be performed at an outpatient surgery center in the Omaha area. Although most patients elect general anesthesia, some people can have only local anesthesia. All patients will be able to return home on the same day as their surgery.

How Long Will It Take to Recover?

Although recovering from surgery is largely dependent on your body’s response, Omaha patients usually take 1-2 weeks to heal.* It is normal to experience some symptoms following your surgery such as:

  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Discomfort

These symptoms are manageable and can be soothed with cool compresses and medication. Patients will need to avoid applying eye makeup or participating in any high-energy activities while they are recovering. Dr. Ayoub will provide you with additional details and answer any specific questions about recovery during your consultation.
