Can A Boob Job Lift My Sagging Breasts?

Gravity and time are the two biggest enemies to perky, youthful breasts. Over time or because of multiple pregnancies, the breasts can begin to sag and droop–a condition called ptosis. When we get calls from women who are suffering from sagging breasts, they often assume that the best course of action is a breast augmentation–also called a “boob job.” Omaha women actually have several options when their breasts begin to sag. What Causes Sagging Breasts?

Time and gravity are the two main enemies of perky, youthful breasts. Just like other areas of the body like the face and buttocks, the skin and tissues of the breasts can start to droop lower with time. But there are a few other things that can accelerate this process.

• Smoking – Cigarettes and nicotine can cause the skin to thin which reduces its strength and elasticity.
• Pregnancies – During pregnancy, a woman’s breasts can undergo significant changes in size and shape. After the pregnancies are finished, it can be hard for the skin to snap back into place.
• Weight loss – For women that experience a lot of weight loss, their breasts can appear droopy afterward.
• Large breasts – Women that have naturally larger breasts are more at risk of having ptosis.

Breast Lift Versus Breast Augmentation

Over the last several decades, the most popular plastic surgery procedure has consistently been the boob job. Omaha women that want larger, fuller breasts and more cleavage can get breathtaking results with a breast augmentation.

But what about women whose breasts have begun to sag? Can they still get the same kind of beautiful results with breast enlargement? In the case of breast ptosis, many of our patients actually get better results with a procedure called a mastopexy, commonly referred to a breast lift.

Simply putting an implant behind sagging, drooping breasts will not solve the root problem which is reduced skin elasticity. Plus, with sagging breasts, the nipple itself is often pointing downward instead of sitting up on the breast.

With a breast lift, Dr. Ayoub does not add any size to the breast. Instead, the goal is to reshape the breast so that it sits higher on the chest and the nipple is in its natural place.
