Saline Vs. Silicone Implants: Which Implant Type is Right For You?

Young Female Model Showcasing Breast Implants

While saline implants are the oldest type of breast implant, there have been some incredible advancements in implant technology over the last couple decades. Women who want to increase their breast size and get more cleavage now have more options than ever before with the rise of silicone implants and cohesive gel implants (also known as “gummy bear” implants). But what exactly are the differences between these silicone and saline implants when it comes to breast augmentation? Omaha patients can get breathtaking and natural-looking results with each type, and in this blog post, we will tell you the pros and cons of each type. If you have any questions at all, please give our offices a call today at (402) 829-6384.

Which Implant Type is Right For Your Breast Augmentation?

Omaha women usually come to their consultations with Dr. Ayoub with a good idea of which type of implant that they want to get. Here is a quick rundown of the differences and the pros and cons of each type.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline breast implants are made from a thick silicone shell that is inserted into the breast pocket deflated. Once the implant is in place, Dr. Ayoub will fill it with a saline solution to the proper size. One of the main advantages of saline implants is that they often require a smaller incision which means a smaller scar. However, many patients believe that saline implants don’t feel as “natural” as silicone. But saline implants are more affordable, and if they leak, the saline solution is totally harmless to the body.

If you want more information or have any questions, here is how you can get some answers.

Silicone Breast Implants

As one of the most popular types of implants for breast augmentation, Omaha women love silicone because it tends to have a softer and more natural feel. Silicone implants also have a thick silicone shell and are pre-filled with a sticky silicone gel. They are more expensive than saline and patients also need to get annual MRIs to make sure that they aren’t leaking.

Cohesive Gel Breast Implants (Gummy Bear)

Often called “gummy bear implants” because of how much they feel like the squishy candy, cohesive gel implants have quickly become the most popular choice for patients. Patients say that these implants feel even more natural than traditional silicone implants. These implants are the most expensive and women will still need to get annual MRIs to check for leaks.
