Breast Implants Omaha
Breast implants have been available for several decades now and over that long period of time the surgical techniques and the breast implants themselves have made massive advancements. Women have a ton of different choices when it comes to every aspect of the procedure: the size and shape of the implants, where the incision will be, what type of implants they want, and more. We hear from many of our potential patients that their own research usually turns up more questions than answers about breast implants. Omaha patients that are unhappy with the size or shape of their breasts should call Dr. Ayoub today at (402) 829-6384 for a free consultation.

Breast Implant Profile
At Westfield Plastic Surgery in Omaha, Dr. Ayoub understands that breast implants are a highly personal decision for any woman considering breast augmentation surgery. As such, it is important to be aware that there are a variety of breast implant profiles to choose from. The profile directly relates to how much an implant projects forward when you are standing. Consider the following:
Low
A low profile is considered the “flattest” profile. The implants themselves are wider and project on a minimal basis from the chest. A low profile is typically flattering for a woman who has a wider chest. A low profile offers the least outward projection from the chest and has the highest implant diameter. They have the widest base width and offer the most natural-looking results when compared to other options. Low profiles are oftentimes chosen by women who have wider chests and desire prominent cleavage.
Medium
A medium profile features a slightly higher projection while still retaining a wide base similar to a low profile. Recognized as universally flattering, a medium profile implant does not present excessive width on the side. They are appropriate for women who have narrower and smaller chests. A medium profile will deliver more projection when compared with that of a low profile, but still less than what is displayed from high profile implants. Medium profiles are natural-looking and are a great choice for women who have narrower chests but want fuller breasts as a result of their surgery. Medium profiles deliver balanced volume and cleavage.
High
A high profile has a narrow base and offers the maximum in projection. They provide a rounded fullness on the top of the breast as well as some lift. The effect created by a high profile is cleavage that is bubbly and prominent. Furthermore, this profile is ideal for petite women who have chest walls that are narrow. High profiles create the most projection as they have a very narrow base width. The outward appearance will result in a full and more rounded breast. This profile type is often chosen by petite women who have a narrow frame or individuals who desire a rounded breast appearance. Additionally, this breast profile is more dramatic and less natural-looking.
Common Breast Implant Sizes
A major consideration when deciding to pursue breast augmentation surgery is the size of the breast implants. Measured in cubic centiliters (CCs), note that size ranges from 200cc to 800cc—and 1cc is ultimately equivalent to 1ml.
Firstly, it is important to understand the cup size you may desire does not correlate to CCs. In order to realize the cup size you are aiming for, your plastic surgeon must assess your chest wall diameter as well as your breast tissue during your initial consultation. Additionally, your plastic surgeon will ask that you try on implant sizers, which will help you get an idea of the look you hope to achieve and what the best size is for you as well as your body. Your plastic surgeon will consult with you one-on-one to learn your goals and ensure a treatment plan is developed accordingly.
Types of Breast Implants
Another consideration you must make as you approach breast augmentation surgery is the type of breast implant that is right for you. Keep reading to learn about the varied types of implants, and be prepared to have a meaningful discussion about these options with your surgeon. Omaha patients tend to have a “favorite” type of implant before they walk through our doors. It always makes us happy when our patients do their own research and come prepared to their consultation with some idea of what they want. However, once you get to hold the implants in your hands and try on our implant sizing bra, you’ll get a better idea of what your results will actually look and feel like.
Saline Breast Implants
Saline breast implants are filled with a saline solution. There are two kinds of saline implants, including implants that are pre-filled with saline prior to the surgical implantation and a shell that is inserted into the breast area and then filled with saline fluid to achieve a targeted volume. Omaha women choose saline breast implants for a couple different reasons. First, saline implants are made with a tough outer silicone shell. The implants are inserted into the breast pocket deflated and then Dr. Ayoub inflates them with a sterile saline solution. About 40% of breast augmentation patients go with saline implants because it uses a smaller incision which produces a smaller scar. Also, saline implants are less expensive and if they leak you’ll know it immediately as the implant collapses (the saline solution is totally harmless and is absorbed by the body just like drinking a glass of water).
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone implants are some of the most popular breast implants. Omaha women love how natural they feel and that they won’t deflate if they leak. However, silicone implants are more expensive and require a larger incision. Also, the FDA recommends that patients get regular MRIs on their implants (twice a year) because that’s the only way to tell for sure if they’re leaking. Silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel. These implants have varying firmness levels, profiles, and sizes and have a highly durable, elastic silicone shell. The gel itself is notable for the fact that it has a consistency that is pliable, thereby resembling the way natural breast tissue feels.
Cohesive Gel Breast Implants (Gummy Bear Implants)
“Gummy Bear” describes the consistency of the silicone gel that is used in this implant. The gummy-like gel is sticky and, therefore, tends to hold a certain shape as it is highly stable. The gel is very thick and, when compared to traditional silicone, is firmer and feels more natural to the touch. Omaha women choose cohesive gel implants more than any other type. Also called “gummy bear implants”, the primary reason women love these implants is because they feel the most natural (even more so than regular silicone implants). Gummy bear implants are the latest FDA-approved type of breast implant and they get their name because of how similar they feel. But just like silicone implants, patients still need to get regular MRIs.
While an initial consultation with Dr. Ayoub is the only way to find out exactly how much your breast augmentation will cost, he has provided a price estimate tool where you can get a comprehensive estimate of the total cost of your desired procedure before you schedule your first appointment.
Breast Implant Shape
Another important factor to consider when deciding on the best implant for you is the breast implant shape. In this regard, it is important to look at your body type and your aesthetic goals and consult carefully with your plastic surgeon to determine what is best for you.
Round Implants
Offered in a variety of profiles and sizes, round implants can be filled with either silicone gel or saline. Additionally, round implants are the most popular choice by most breast augmentation patients. Round implants are by far the most common implant shape and come in varied types, ranging from low to high projection. These implants will appear fuller at the very top of the breast and are a great option for a woman who may wish to address sagging.
Teardrop
Teardrop implants are more natural-looking and showcase a fuller bottom as opposed to the full top of round implants. Women who want their breast augmentation to look natural and their surgery to remain a secret oftentimes choose this shape.
Breast Implant Textures
The final consideration to make when contemplating breast augmentation surgery is the breast implant texture. All breast implants have a solid silicone envelope, but the surface of this shell may be smooth or textured.
Smooth
An implant with a smooth surface will look glossy and translucent. This implant carries with it the ability to be filled with saline or silicone. The advantage of the smooth implant is that when it is implanted in front of the pectoralis major muscle, it will look and move like a natural breast. The shell of a smooth implant is thinner and allows the implant to feel softer and more natural when it is implanted. A smooth implant also has the ability to move more freely during activity and in a way that is similar to natural breast tissue.
Textured
Like a smooth implant, a textured implant can also be filled with silicone or saline, but it will have a rough-feeling outer shell. A textured implant will grow into the tissue that surrounds it, creating scar tissue or a “capsule.” As such, it will remain in position and be much firmer and motionless when compared to a smooth implant. A textured breast implant has a thicker shell than a round implant and feels a bit rough, like sandpaper. When the textured implant is filled, it feels firmer and will adhere to the breast tissue differently than a round implant, which, as noted, is free to move. Textured implants are most often used by patients who have a convex or concave breastbone.
