What Happens During a Boob Job?

Omaha patients will get to discuss all of the details about boob job procedure with Dr. Ayoub long before their surgery date. The procedure is incredibly complex but we wanted to outline the general steps so that our potential patients have an idea of what to expect before they come in for their complimentary consultation.

  • Implant type and size – Of course, one of the biggest decisions that patients need to make is which type of breast implant they want (silicone or saline) and how large they want. Depending on your build and your goals for the procedure, this can vary greatly.
  • The incision – Dr. Ayoub will make an incision on the patient so that he can access the breast tissue and create a pocket for the implant. There are a few different places where Dr. Ayoub can place the incision which is another big decision that patients can talk with him about.
  • Placing the implant – From there, Dr. Ayoub will place the implant. There are two different placements: on top of the chest muscle or underneath it. Again, where the implant is placed depends on the patient’s frame and what they want their breasts to look like afterwards.
  • Closing the incision – Finally, Dr. Ayoub will then close the incision with sutures or medical glue.

Choosing the Implant Type for Your Boob Job

Omaha women often come into their consultation with an idea of which type of implant they want. But getting to hold them and try on one of our implant sizing bras can actually change our patients’ minds.

Saline Breast Implants

Saline implants are the original breast implants and while our modern ones are much different than the originals, they still have some of the same advantages and disadvantages. For one, saline implants are cheaper but they tend to feel “harder” than natural breasts. Saline implants can also present “rippling” on the sides of them (but so do silicone implants). But one of the main advantages of saline implants is that they require a smaller incision and produce a smaller scar.

Silicone Breast Implants

Silicone implants are more popular than saline implants because many patients believe they feel softer and more natural. But silicone implants produce a larger scar and they’re also more expensive. In some cases they can also ripple on the sides. Plus, the FDA recommends patients with silicone implants get regular MRIs to check for leaks. While leaking saline implants will deflate, silicone won’t which makes finding leaks very difficult.

Cohesive Gel Breast Implants (Gummy Bear implants)

Our patients choose cohesive gel implants more than any other type for the boob job. Omaha patients often call these implants “gummy bear implants” because of how similar they feel to the candies. Gummy bear implants have the most life-like feel which is why they’re so popular. Just like regular silicone implants, though, gummy bear implants need to be scanned with an MRI regularly to makes sure they don’t leak.
