Rhinoplasty Procedure Process Explained
No matter your reason for choosing rhinoplasty, Dr. Ayoub can help. He and his staff will walk with you every step of the way and help you understand everything you need to know about your rhinoplasty before you make a final decision.
The Consultation
When you visit with Dr. Ayoub for your initial consultation, he will perform a full evaluation of your nose, talk to you about your overall medical history, listen as you explain why you want to have a rhinoplasty, and work with you to develop a treatment plan that will suit your needs and help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
What should I do in preparation for a Rhinoplasty?
Before you visit Dr. Ayoub in Omaha, NE for your rhinoplasty, there are some things you should check off of your “To Do” list. Namely,
- Find a friend or family member to bring you to your appointment and be ready to take you home once you have been released
- Have all prescriptions provided by Dr. Ayoub filled before your rhinoplasty
- Clear your calendar for 1-2 weeks following your procedure to ensure you have ample time to recover
- Stop using tobacco products at least 2 weeks before your surgery to avoid complications during and after your rhinoplasty
How Long Does a Rhinoplasty Procedure Take?
Generally speaking, you can expect your surgery to take between 2-6 hours, depending on your specific needs. However, during your evaluation, Dr. Ayoub will fully explain your treatment plan and surgical procedure so you will have a better idea of how long your specific rhinoplasty should take.
What Will Happen During My Rhinoplasty?
Once you and Dr. Ayoub decide what type of rhinoplasty is suited for you, he will review exactly what you can expect for your specific procedure. However, no matter the type of rhinoplasty technique chosen, your procedure will be an outpatient surgery performed under general anesthesia. Once you have been put to sleep, Dr. Ayoub will get to work repositioning your nose to a more appealing and functional shape and size.
Recovering from a Rhinoplasty
You will be able to go home the same day as your rhinoplasty, but someone will need to drive you and stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery. In the first week after surgery it is normal for patients to experience:*
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Discomfort
You will have a splint on the outside of your nose for one week.* If you have any septal work, you will also have splints inside your nose. You can return to work after one week, but you may still have bruising at that point.*
Should I Avoid Certain Activities After My Rhinoplasty?
While a rhinoplasty is a common plastic surgery procedure with low risks for complication, you will need time to heal. For the first several weeks after recovery you should avoid:
- Bending over
- Lifting heavy objects
- Blowing your nose
During your follow-up exams, Dr. Ayoub will inform you when you can resume these activities without affecting the results of your surgery.
When Will I Notice the Results of My Rhinoplasty?
The results from surgery are immediate, but full recovery and refinement generally takes one year.* As time passes, the appearance of your nose will continue to improve. Your face is the first thing people notice about you, and your nose plays a central role in the harmony of your facial features. Whether you have imperfections due to heredity or injury, rhinoplasty can improve the proportions of your face and increase your self-confidence.*
