Breast Reduction Omaha
Inquiring Patients Please Note: A Bilateral Breast Reduction is considered a medically necessary procedure in most cases and is therefore billed to insurance. For more information, please see “Insurance Coverage for Breast Reduction” below.
Women with larger breasts can run into several physical problems because of the additional weight of their breasts. Breasts that are over a certain size are considered a medical problem and most insurance companies cover plastic surgery when Omaha patients experience symptoms such as:
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Marks from bra straps
- Sleep apnea
Patients who experience these chronic symptoms are ideal candidates for a breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty. This surgical technique reduces the size of the breasts and also results in lifting the breasts.
What Will a Breast Reduction Correct?
While the main purpose of a breast reduction is to reduce the size of the breasts, there is also an aesthetic component. The weight of the breasts accelerates sagging, which is corrected by removing excess skin and tightening the tissue on the side of the breast. Three key determining factors of how much to remove are.
- Go with what fits your body
- Anatomically possible
- What insurance pays for (certain criteria)
These factors may not be your ideal size, but will suit your body type and aesthetic results more than achieving a specific bra size.
Improving the Appearance of Enlarged Areolas
Women with larger breasts generally have enlarged areolas, dark skin around the nipples. When the size of your breasts is reduced, Dr. Ayoub will reduce the diameter of the areola as well as the:
- Tissue
- Fat
- Skin
As a final touch, Dr. Ayoub will move the location of the nipple so that it is parallel to the breast crease and pointing forwards. The result is a more proportional and natural looking breast.
What Will Happen During My Consultation?
During your consultation, Dr. Ayoub will perform a thorough examination and discuss different available options for your breast reduction. It’s common for Omaha patients to have a certain size in mind, but the optimal size for will depend on:
- Your frame
- Chest height
- Chest width
By using this formula to calculate a proportional size, your results will not only look completely natural but likely be covered by your insurance company.
Insurance Coverage for Breast Reduction
Because the symptoms of large breasts can cause physical pain and discomfort, it is considered a medically necessary procedure in most cases. Insurance companies approve the majority of patients based on Dr. Ayoub’s recommendation for the procedure. By basing the amount of breast tissue removed on careful analysis, Dr. Ayoub can document the exact techniques for the procedure to get pre-approval from your insurance company.
Reviewing Your Consultation with TouchMD
Dr. Ayoub uses TouchMD as a tool to explain the procedure during each consultation. This system allows you to access videos about your procedure and explore more information to help you make a decision. This HIPAA compliant system can be viewed before and after your procedure to provide you with accurate information about what to expect and how to recover from surgery.

Breast Reduction Techniques
Breast reductions can be broken into two different approaches based on the incision used for the procedure:
- Vertical scar mastopexy (lollipop breast reduction): Typical for smaller breast reductions when less 200 grams will be removed from each breast. The lollipop incision extends vertically from the breast crease to the nipple and liposuction is used to suction fat and tissue to reduce the size of the breasts.
- Inverted T (anchor scar): Breasts that require over 200 grams to be removed will generally employ the inverted T. This procedure involves a horizontal incision in the breast crease and a vertical incision from breast crease to nipple.
Both types of breast reduction are done under general anesthesia, and you will be discharged the same day. Omaha patients should take approximately one week off after surgery to rest. Dr. Ayoub will prescribe pain medication and advise you to limit activities during this time.
