A facelift is a perfect way to address significant signs of aging on the face. In and of itself, the facelift procedure is designed to address loose, sagging skin and deep lines and wrinkles on the lower two-thirds of the face. However, this customizable procedure can be combined with other facial plastic surgery options to provide a completely rejuvenated appearance. Many patients choose a brow lift or eyelid surgery to enhance the appearance of aging eyes. In comparison, others consider non-invasive procedures to further enhance the texture and volume of their skin, like IPL or chemical peels.

Benefits of a Facelift

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a procedure that improves clear signs of aging that are deeper and resistant to non-surgical treatment. A full facelift can often turn back the clock by 10 or even 20 years by addressing:*

Nasolabial folds icon

Nasolabial folds or smile lines around their mouth.

Facial wrinkles icon

Excess sagging skin on the face and neck.

Jawline jowls icon

Jowls on the jaw & loss of jawline contour.

Face & neck lift icon

Banding in the neck & loss of skin elasticity.

Omaha patients restore their appearance by reducing sagging skin, and tightening the muscles underneath, for skin that is smooth and wrinkle-free.*

Am I a Good Candidate For a Facelift?

To be considered a good candidate for a facelift, you must first visit Dr. Ayoub for an initial consultation. During your visit, he will perform a full evaluation and talk to you about your overall health history.

You will be considered a good candidate for this plastic surgery procedure if you are in good health both physically and mentally, you have significant facial signs of aging, you do not use tobacco products, and you exhibit realistic expectations for your final results.

A Facelift is Ideal For

The facelift procedure is a perfect solution for anyone who has significant facial signs of aging. Specifically, if you:

Loose Skin Icon

Have loose skin on your face or neck. If you have significantly loose skin on your face or neck that is aging you beyond your years, Dr. Ayoub can use the facelift procedure to remove excess skin to give you a rejuvenated look.

Drooping Skin Icon

Have a drooping appearance in your face. Lost facial volume can also add to an aged appearance and cause patients to have a face that looks droopy and sad. A facelift can add volume back to the key areas of your face—such as the cheeks—to help restore your youthful facial features.

Deep Facial Lines Icon

Want to get rid of deep lines and wrinkles. A facelift can free you of these signs of aging and return your skin to a smoother appearance.

Young-looking Icon

Want to look as young as you feel. If you look older than you feel (or than you actually are), a facelift can help by lifting and tightening your facial skin to a more renewed appearance, naturally. In fact, many of Dr. Ayoub’s patients look 10-20 years younger after a facelift!

A Facelift is Not So Great For

As with any elective surgery, a facelift is not appropriate for everyone. Nor is it the answer to every sign of aging on your face. As we mentioned, a traditional facelift is designed to address the lower two-thirds of the face. For instance, it will not correct a sagging brow or hooded eyelids.

Because most of Dr. Ayoub’s patients want to achieve a rejuvenated appearance on their entire face, it is common to combine a facelift with other procedures. When you meet with Dr. Ayoub for your initial consultation, he will be able to walk you through a customized approach to your surgery and recommend an all-inclusive treatment plan to help you reach your goals.

How Old Do I Have To Be To Get a Facelift?

There is actually no minimum age requirement to receive a facelift. It is truly based on each patient’s degree of aging and skin condition. Some of Dr. Ayoub’s patients receive a facelift or mini-facelift in their 40s, while others choose to wait until their 50s or 60s to choose plastic surgery. To know if a facelift is right for you, meet with Dr. Ayoub. Only a one-on-one consultation will help you truly know what is suited for you.

Facelift Surgical Techniques to Consider

Facelift Surgical Techniques

The facelift procedure is highly customized to fit the needs of each individual patient, which is why he offers several different surgical facelift techniques for his patients in Omaha, NE. Which procedure is right for you will be a decision you and Dr. Ayoub will make together during your initial visit.

Full Facelift

A full facelift utilizes a surgical technique that includes an incision that extends from the hairline on the temple to the hairline on the back of the head. Dr. Ayoub prefers this approach because it pulls nasolabial folds and jowls up in the skin’s normal direction and avoids tension on the overlying skin. A full facelift is ideal for patients who have more excess skin on their face and neck.

Mid-Facelift

A mid-facelift is primarily used to address the cheekbones and upper jaw areas of the face. Men and women who are experiencing droopy facial features and want to improve the lower portions of their face as well, often choose a mid-facelift surgical technique to achieve ideal results.

Lower Facelift

Patients whose primary signs of aging are in the neck area often find that the lower facelift surgical technique provides the optimal results. This option specifically addresses the neck, chin, and jowls and helps patients attain a slimmer, more contoured facial appearance by removing excess skin and fat.

Mini Facelift

For men and women who have just minor signs of aging on their face, a mini facelift is often the perfect solution. Many patients choose to have this procedure in their younger years as a less-invasive option to a full facelift later on. This technique involves just a tiny incision around the ears to improve signs of aging around the mouth and jawline.

Short Scar Facelift

A short scar facelift is performed for patients who have minimal excess facial skin but more neck banding, prominent nasolabial folds, and jowls. The short scar facelift technique uses a preauricular incision that does not extend into the hairline but remains around the ear and is, therefore, less invasive.

Facelift with Fat Grafting

The facelift with fat grafting surgical technique enhances the results of your facelift by transferring a small amount of fat from your own body to various areas of your face. This added volume will restore facial contours that have lost their definition over time. It is suited for patients whose primary concern is a hollow or droopy appearance caused by lost volume.

Facelift Procedure Process Explained

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a procedure that improves clear signs of aging that are deep and have proven resistant to non-surgical treatment options. By utilizing his skill and experience, Dr. Ayoub is able to help his facelift patients achieve a naturally younger-looking appearance by customizing each individual treatment based on each patient’s needs.

The Consultation

When you meet with Dr. Ayoub in Omaha, NE for your initial consultation, he will perform a full evaluation of your face and listen as you describe what you hope to achieve through a facelift. He will also talk to you about your overall health history to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure. He will then work with you to develop a surgical plan that will turn back the hands of time and rejuvenate your appearance.

What Should I Do in Preparation for a Facelift?

Before the day of your facelift surgery, there are some things you should do to prepare. Be sure to arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from your appointment, as you will be unable to drive after your surgery due to the effects of anesthesia. Dr. Ayoub will also provide you with prescriptions before your surgery, which you should have filled beforehand. And finally, Dr. Ayoub recommends his facelift patients arrange for adequate time off from work and normal daily activities in order to ensure a safe and healthy recovery.

How Long Does a Facelift Procedure Take?

Depending on the surgical technique chosen for your facelift, the procedure could take between 2-4 hours to complete. When you meet with Dr. Ayoub for your consultation, he will be able to provide you with a better idea of how long your procedure could take, depending on your needs and whether or not you have chosen to include any additional procedures.

What Will Happen During My Facelift?

There are many variations of the facelift based on the location and length of the incision as well as the mechanism of skin tightening. During your procedure, Dr. Ayoub will:

  • Make a traditional or short scar incision depending on the issues identified in your consultation.
  • Reduce any excess skin.
  • Lift and tighten muscle and skin
  • Close the incisions to minimize scarring.

A facelift is an outpatient procedure and may require you to stay overnight depending on your condition after surgery.*

How Can I Maintain the Results of My Facelift?

Dr. Ayoub encourages healthy habits to slow aging and maintain the results of your facelift. Three key things you can do are:

Quit Smoking Icon

Quit smoking. Aside from the health effects of smoking, it wrecks havoc on your appearance by causing premature wrinkles.

Limit Sun Damage Icon

Limit sun damage. Going out in the sun during peak hours (10am-2pm) or using a tanning bed can worsen wrinkles and make you vulnerable to skin cancer. Wear clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen to limit your exposure.

Skin Care Icon

Use high-quality skincare. Dr. Ayoub offers the full line of Obagi for home skin care. This revolutionary line helps you retain skin volume and elasticity for long-lasting results and healthier skin.

Dr. Ayoub will give you detailed information specific to your procedure during follow-up exams and is dedicated to making sure that you look your absolute best.

Other Things to Consider Before Getting a Facelift

Before you choose to have a facelift, Dr. Ayoub always recommends his patients take a moment to consider all of the factors involved in their decision.

Are There Any Risks Involved in Getting a Facelift?

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks involved with getting a facelift. Though rare, some of the risks include reactions to anesthesia, infection, bleeding, numbness or other changes in skin sensation, and unfavorable scarring. When you meet with Dr. Ayoub for your consultation, he will review these risks with you so you can make an informed decision about your surgery.

How Natural Will My Results Look After a Facelift?

Dr. Ayoub believes in providing natural-looking results for his patients, no matter the type of surgery. Because of this, he prefers the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) facelift approach because it pulls nasolabial folds and jowls up in the skin’s normal direction and avoids the windblown look often associated with facelifts in years past.

Are There Any Other Facelift Alternatives to Achieve the Results I am Looking for?

A facelift will only address the middle and bottom of your face, leaving your eyes and brow relatively untouched. To achieve complete facial rejuvenation, you can combine a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), a brow lift, or injectable fillers with your facelift for more comprehensive treatment of your upper face.
