Omaha Facelift

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a procedure that improves clear signs of aging that are deeper and resistant to non-surgical treatment. A full facelift can often turn back the clock by 10 or even 20 years by addressing:*

  • Nasolabial folds or smile lines around their mouth
  • Excess sagging skin on the face and neck
  • Jowls on the jaw
  • Loss of jawline contour
  • Banding in the neck

Omaha patients restore their appearance by reducing sagging skin, and tightening the muscles underneath, for skin that is smooth and wrinkle-free.*

Different Facelift Techniques

The results of your facelift will depend on the technique of your plastic surgeon. Some plastic surgeons still use outdated facelift procedures that pull the patient’s skin unnaturally tight, leaving them with a wind-tunnel look. Dr. Ayoub prefers the SMAS facelift because it pulls nasolabial folds and jowls up in the skin’s normal direction to avoid any tension on the overlying skin.

Facelift Incisions

The traditional facelift incision is extended into the hairline on the temple and the hairline on the back of the head. Dr. Ayoub prefers this incision for patients who have more excess skin on their face and neck.

Short Scar Facelift

A short scar facelift is performed for patients who have minimal excess skin and:

  • More neck banding
  • Prominent nasolabial folds
  • Jowls

For the short scar facelift, Dr. Ayoub will use a peri-auricular incision that does not extend into the hair but remains around your ear.

Facelift with Fat Grafting

As we grow older, our skin not only begins to wrinkle and sag but loses the youthful volume that kept our skin firm. Fat grafting enhances the results of your facelift by transferring a small amount of fat from your own body to your face. This added volume will restore facial contours that have lost their definition over time.*

Combining Facelift with Other Procedures

A facelift will only address the middle and bottom of your face, leaving your eyes and brow relatively untouched. To achieve complete facial rejuvenation, you can combine a blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) and brow lift with your facelift for more comprehensive treatment of your upper face.

What Will Happen During My Facelift?

There are many variations of the facelift based on the location and length of the incision as well as the mechanism of skin tightening. During your procedure, Dr. Ayoub will:

  • Make a traditional or short scar incision depending on the issues identified in your consultation.
  • Reduce any excess skin.
  • Lift and tighten muscle and skin
  • Close the incisions to minimize scarring.

A facelift is an outpatient procedure and may require you to stay overnight depending on your condition after surgery.*

Recovering From a Facelift

Dr. Ayoub has performed facelifts for nearly 15 years and is an expert at making incisions that are concealed in the natural hairline or folds of your face. As you recover from the procedure, it may take a week or two for bandages and sutures to come off.* Many patients decide to stay home to avoid disclosing that they’ve had any work done. As you recover you will experience:

  • Tightness
  • Bruising
  • Swelling

The bruising should disappear after two weeks, but the swelling will take about a month to go away.* Many patients in Omaha take over-the-counter pain relievers and apply cool compresses to relieve these symptoms. When you do plan to go out, you can use concealer or foundation to minimize the appearance of bruising.

How Can I Maintain the Results of My Facelift?

Dr. Ayoub encourages healthy habits to slow aging and maintain the results of your facelift. Three key things you can do are:

  • Quit smoking. Aside from the health effects of smoking, it wrecks havoc on your appearance by causing premature wrinkles.
  • Limit sun damage. Going out in the sun during peak hours (10am-2pm) or using a tanning bed can worsen wrinkles and make you vulnerable to skin cancer. Wear clothing, sunglasses, and sunscreen to limit your exposure.
  • Use high-quality skincare. Dr. Ayoub offers the full line of Obagi for home skin care. This revolutionary line helps you retain skin volume and elasticity for long-lasting results and healthier skin.

Dr. Ayoub will give you detailed information specific to your procedure during follow-up exams to ensure that you look your absolute best.
